Tips for the Best Streaming Experience
Pro tips to optimize your SpyScope setup for reliable, high-quality streaming.
Network Optimization
- Use 5GHz WiFi - The 5GHz band offers more bandwidth and less interference than 2.4GHz, resulting in smoother streams
- Stay close to your router - Signal strength matters. Position your streaming device within good range of your WiFi router
- Reduce network congestion - Pause large downloads or other streaming on your network while monitoring
- Use a WiFi extender - If streaming from a distant room, a mesh network or WiFi extender can help maintain signal quality
Camera Positioning
- Use a stable mount - A phone tripod, desk stand, or wall mount prevents shaky footage
- Angle for coverage - Position the camera to capture the area you need. The Ultra Wide lens is great for wide rooms
- Consider lighting - Position the camera to avoid backlit subjects. Natural light from the side works best
- Lock orientation - Enable iOS rotation lock to prevent accidental orientation changes
Battery & Power
- Keep it plugged in - For extended monitoring, always use a power source. Streaming is power-intensive
- Disable Auto-Lock - Go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never (while streaming)
- Reduce brightness - Lower screen brightness to save power while still seeing the preview
- Use an old device - Repurpose an older iPhone or iPad as a dedicated streaming camera
Video Quality Settings
- Match your network - If experiencing buffering, try a lower quality setting (1080p or 720p)
- 2K for detail - Use 2K quality when you need to see fine details, like reading text or identifying faces
- 720p for efficiency - Lower resolution uses less bandwidth and battery, great for long monitoring sessions
Latency Settings
- Ultra-low for real-time - Use 2-second segments when you need to react quickly (baby monitoring)
- Higher latency for stability - If your network is unreliable, higher latency settings provide smoother playback
- Find your balance - Experiment to find the best latency for your specific use case and network
Low Light Tips
- Enable the torch - Use the built-in flashlight for dark rooms. It provides consistent lighting
- Add ambient light - A small night light or LED strip can improve visibility without harsh flashlight glare
- Use newer devices - Modern iPhones have better low-light camera sensors
Viewing Tips
- Bookmark the URL - Save the stream URL for quick access on your viewing devices
- Use multiple tabs - Monitor multiple rooms by opening streams in separate browser tabs
- Try VLC or IINA - Desktop media players often offer better performance than browsers for long viewing sessions
- Refresh if stuck - If the stream freezes, refreshing the browser usually resolves it
